Avey Tare: Down There (2010)

Avey Tare's second official solo release is darker than nearly all of his previous work. Throughout the album his sunny melodies and synthesizer riffs are pulled down and dragged through the mud by groggy bass and watery sounds. "Down There" has the feeling of struggle, while also giving off a glimmer of hope. It's the sort of album that one needs to listen to all the way through to get the full effect. While each song already seems to play off the others, the tracks are all bridged together by various samples and gloshes giving it the feel of a muddy bog. The music sounds dirty, but the delicate melodies shine through the grime making the album truly an experience.
